Solitude

“…If I yawned hard enough perhaps I could swallow the sun… and then become everyone else’ sun.

A nurse carried me in her arms. Why am I so small? I wonder, what has shrunk me so?

I try to tell her I can walk but she doesn’t hear me.

My nose is buried in her garment.

I said to myself, if I do wake up I shall begin to eat the sun from the bottom… upwards. When… When I wake up I shall begin to eat the sun from the bottom up.

It must be easier that way.”- SOLITUDE

SOLITUDE – written as part of a larger project; The Hopper Project and based on Edward Hopper`s “Intermission”.

This piece explores three themes derived from Edward Hopper`s paintings, “Sunlight, the need of it. solitude, the beauty of it. Silence, the impossibility of it… even in a solitary state” – Zainabu Jallo

THE HOPPER PROJECT, conceptualised and directed by Alain Foix is inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper and situates characters and their singular stories as imagined by four authors Zainabu Jallo, Denis Baronnet, Sara Clifford and Andreas Flourakis.

Produced by the company Quai des arts with the collaboration of THE FENCE and the city of Charité sur Loire, France.
